Never stop educating yourself on current news items

Anytime you hear about something – a phrase, a cultural term, something about a country or religion, something science related – that you don’t understand, Google it or go to Wikipedia.

Learn at least the basics of what it is rather than continue on not knowing.

For example, years ago I had to understand what Shiites and Sunnis were and what the conflict between them was all about. I didn’t want to become an expert on the Middle East; I just wanted to get a basic understanding given how often these words were appearing in the press (and to this day continue to).

Currently, I had to learn the basics about salary caps (in professional sports); Crisper (the gene editing product); Brexit and why it’s so complicated.
